who wants to improve their knowledge of cross connection control. Anyone with experience or training in cross
connection control who wants to prepare to take the Cross Connection Control
Specialist certification examination in Washington state.

Workshop Description
A cross connection control program protects a
water system from contamination by cross connections. Every community and
most non-community water systems in the state are required to have a cross
connection control program. This course defines cross connections, describes
the hydraulic causes of different types of backflow and how cross
connections affect public health. Participants will find out how to rank the
degree of hazard of different contaminants. They will also identify types of
approved backflow prevention assemblies, recognize their components and
become aware of their advantages and disadvantages. The ten essential
elements of a cross connection control program acceptable to the Department
of Health will be explained in clear, easy to understand terms. Students
will learn how to prioritize inspections for new and existing facilities.
They will find out when premises isolation is required and when point-of-use
protection is acceptable. The application of corrective and enforcement
actions will be presented. Acceptable backflow assembly test procedures,
test equipment and test report forms will be discussed. Record keeping and
reporting requirements will be explained. This course will help participants
prepare for the Department of Health's Cross Connection Control Specialist
certification examination for Washington state and help develop or improve a
utility’s cross connection control program. Participants will complete practice exam questions referenced to categories of need-to-know
criteria. They will have an opportunity to review and discuss questions with
WETRC's veteran instructors. Participants will pick up vital information
that they can put to immediate use to get ready for the certification
examination.

student. Registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
Payment or purchase order must be received at the time of registration. A
full refund will be made for cancellations received 10 days before the workshop.
No refund will be made for cancellations received less than 10 days before the
workshops. Substitutions made less than
ten (10) days prior to the
workshop incur a $35 processing fee.
