TWO PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOPS 8:15 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

Attend one of the two 3-hour "Sharpening Your Technical Skills" workshops. The Association of Boards of Certification has identified specific subject areas where water and wastewater operators need additional review to help on-the-job and when preparing for an exam.

OPENING SESSION 1:00 a.m. - 2:20 p.m.

Trained and Certified Operators: Priceless - Gregg Grunenfelder, Assistant Secretary, Division of Environmental Health at DOH, will reinforce why trained and certified operators are more important than ever during times when water and wastewater utilities may be tightening their financial belts.

GENERAL SESSIONS 2:45 p.m. - 4:45 p.m.

Sneak Preview - Learn more about the proposed DOH Water Works Operator Certification Program. rule changes affecting operators and utilities.

Issues Facing Wastewater Operators - DOE will provide important updates for operators on certification, compliance and technical assistance.

THREE UTILITY TOURS 2:45 p.m. - 4:45 p.m.

  • Regional Water Chlorination Tour - Wenatchee’s Regional Facility is converting from gaseous chlorine disinfection to a 12.5% sodium hypochlorite system in January 2010.
  • North Wenatchee Reservoir Tour - Recent system planning identified the need for a new 2-million gallon reservoir. Learn about aspects of the design and construction project. Construction of wall sections is scheduled to be underway.
  • Douglas County Sewer District Wastewater Treatment Plant Tour - DCSD facility recently upgraded to improve their Auto Thermal Thermophilic Aerobic Digestion (ATAD) process for solids stabilization. Learn about the ATAD process and get background for attending a WOW session on this topic.

EVENING SESSION 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

The Ethical Operator: Liability Risk to You and Your Utility - Are you personally liable for actions you take at work? Learn from Dan Sander how to minimize risk to the operator and the utility.

PIPE-TAPPING EXHIBITION

Teams preparing to complete in the pipe-tapping competition a the 2010 PNWS-AWWA conference will present an exhibition at the Convention Center on Tuesday from 4:45 p.m. - 6:15 p.m. prior to the banquet.
